Kansas City International Airport is planning a fixed-rail, mass transportation system to seamlessly connect each of the three terminals to each other and to the satellite parking and rental car facility. The terminal stations will connect to each of the terminal buildings via connection bridges located over the existing arrival roadway.
Wellner Architects designed the five passenger stations for KCI's light rail system.
The station located at the rental car facility will be larger than the other station due to passenger load and physical compatability with the rental car facility.
The satellite parking station will provide lobby space below the station platform for travelor amenities such as public toilets, ATM machines, and valet parking. Passengers parking in the satellite parking lot are bussed to the APM station where they can board the train to either the rental car facility or the terminal buildings.
The light rail APM station will provide the interface between a proposed light rail service from downtown Kansas City with the APM trains at the airport. Passengers will de-board the light rail train under a large canopy, enter the lower level of the APM station, and proceed up the interior escalators to the APM platform level where they will board the train to the terminals.
