Wellner Architects Completed a study of the Kansas City, Kansas City Hall in 2001. Wellner was responsible for analyzing the existing building conditions of the municipal building, outlining a program based on space needs, proposing options to remedy the building's problems, establishing cost estimates for the proposed options, suggesting phasing for construction of the proposed solution, and preparing and presenting conclusions. Wellner's recommendations included replacement of the structural deck at the plaza level, window replacement, exterior facade improvements, and building expansion at the plaza level. The expansion will include space for several meeting rooms of different sizes and an auditorium. These spaces will be made available for city and public use.

Currently, Wellner is proceeding with the replacement of the plaza level deck. This project will include the temporary relocation of the police headquarters, abating, removing the plaza level deck so that repairs can be made to the concrete structure of the parking garage, repairing the steel structure of occupied spaces, code improvements, and minimal aesthetics and lobby improvements. This phase of the project is scheduled to be completed in 2005 and has a budget of $6,000,000.
