WHO WE ARE
Wellner Architects + Engineers is a mid-size architectural and MEP engineering firm located in the Crossroads Arts District, just south of downtown Kansas City, Missouri.
Our project breadth ranges from small renovations to large-scale construction projects. Big or small, we provide design solutions authentic to the client's goals with opportunities for creative, sustainable and pleasing environments.
The history of our firm begins in 1987 when Julie Wellner opened the doors and hired her first employee. Since then, she has has been certified as a WBE/DBE with the city of
Kansas City and the state of Missouri.
In 2024, we expanded our offerings to include Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing engineering services.
AIA, NCARB Julie has been the fearless leader of WAI since 1987. She oversees all projects to keep the schedule and goals on course and our client's needs in mind. Her background consists of architecture, engineering, and environmental design, which is conducive to coordinating and designing projects as a whole. Oh! And did someone mention WINE? Cabernet? Chardonnay? Yes, she'll have one...or maybe two.
JULIE WELLNER
AIA, NCARB, LEED AP BD+C When she’s not designing, documenting, managing, or marketing, you can find Emily riding her bike…that goes nowhere. Her passion for group fitness aligns with her love of all things sports. With an architectural background in sports facilities and events, she loves to support all the KC teams. From Current to Chiefs, Royals and Sporting, she and her husband, Kyle, will never turn down an opportunity to spectate.
AIA, NCARB, LEED AP BD+C Jason wears many hats in our office. If you need design ideas, technical support, construction details or Kansas City facts, he's your guy! And if he’s not at his desk, look for him near the WAI server where he’s finding solutions for questions like “why isn’t the internet working?” or “what happened to that email?”.
PE Cory puts the engineer in architectural engineer as our lead PE team member. A graduate of Kansas State, he brings extensive MEP design knowledge, construction administration and managerial experience to our team. He's also a salesman and might try to sell you something, like his office chair.
RA, LEED AP BD+C, ENV SP Ann is her name and construction management is her game. When she's not on a project site you might find her checking off criteria on a LEED checklist. If you happen to be visiting our office and suddenly hear high-pitched chipmunk voices, don’t run, it’s just Ann’s ringtone and it will be over shortly!
Over the past decade, Brent has played a pivotal role in numerous projects, overseeing everything from planning and design to construction administration. With his son graduating college, Brent and his wife Angela now relish their empty nesting time, embarking on travel adventures and exploring hidden trails on their Harley or cruising lakes in their ‘77 jet boat, creating cherished memories amidst spectacular views.
Assoc. AIA, LEED Green Associate A recent graduate of Drury University, Brooklyn models conceptual ideas, generates construction documents, asks all the questions and keeps us on our toes! Growing up on a farm in Aurora, Missouri, she came to KCMO for more architectural opportunities. When not at work, she enjoys being on the lake, reading a good book, and spending time with friends & family.
Who's the first friendly face you see when you walk in the door of Wellner Architects? It's Elisabeth! We always look forward to her help with editing technical specifications, scheduling our continuing education classes, keeping the M&M bowls filled and other important tasks around the office.
As our business manager, Emily is in charge of multiple facets of our day to day success, from general office management to payroll and invoicing to marketing. Protect Emily at all costs! As a Kansas City native, Emily loves taking vacations, especially to destination weddings!
NCIDQ Hannah, a KC native, has a deep affection for interior design in all its facets. With a wealth of experience in creating both commercial interiors and custom fixtures, she combines her professional prowess with personal passions. When not immersed in design, she enjoys collecting Danish furniture, cheering on her K-State Wildcats and embarking on her next National Park adventure.
After years of attending WAI Christmas parties with his wife, the desire to participate in the Christmas craft activity on his own encouraged him to seek a position at WAI. He brings to the office a collection of unusual gadgets including solar dancing toys, Galileo thermometer, spinning tops, and an unusual knowledge of antique farm machinery as well as skills in technical architecture, construction administration and Revit.
AIA, LEED AP There's one in every group, the sarcastic comic. That's Lindsey, and when she's not lightening the mood in our office she's making sure our Revit work habits are done correctly and properly.
Preston's passion for sustainability and 3D scanning combines his excitement in the world of historic preservation and his love of old buildings. When he’s not sketching crazy architectural ideas, you can catch him looking for new thrilling experiences like searching for the biggest roller coaster at an amusement park or jumping out of an airplane!
Susan was the friendly face that greeted you in our office but now she's the friendly face that greets you on one of our job sites! She is keeping things in order at the new Blue River Biosolids Facility for the next four years!
LEED AP We have deemed Tony our quiet intellect. From obscure historical facts, beer making tutorials, to Revit how-to's, he's got an answer for nearly everything, you just have to ask! His knowledge of industry software and design details is beneficial to our team.
